FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
YourLifeIsATrip.com, the people’s travel website, registers double-digit growth in its first six months
More than 20,500 readers visited YourLifeIsATrip.com in June.
28 active contributors have posted 100 travel articles this year.
SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO—July 27, 2009—Everywhere you look, there are cutbacks, layoffs, bailouts, belt-tightening. But, being cockeyed optimists, YourLifeIsATrip.com co-creators Judith Fein and Ellen Barone see this as a period of restructuring—new media outlets are replacing the old, and new business models are exploring the bounds of traditional enterprise. That’s why the two veteran travel journalists founded www.yourlifeisatrip.com.
Their results have exceeded even their wildest dreams: Since the website first went live in January, 2009, page views have grown from nearly zero to more than 20,500. More than two dozen active contributors have posted articles on everything from taking art classes at the Louvre to guiding a high-school class along a 40-state US odyssey. Some of the articles are highly controversial and have been reposted and quoted widely; some are gentle meditations on life, such as the reflections of a New York City cab driver.
Though YLIAT is aimed at travel, its compass is broader than the classic idea of getting on a plane and visiting a remote location. Barone and Fein believe that there is no division between your travels, your life, your soul, your well-being, your relationships, your money, your work, your play. Life IS a trip and their goal in creating YourLifeIsATrip.com is to help readers and contributors alike maximize that unique experience. You CAN be a traveler rather than a tourist in your own life–whether that means traveling with nomads, going on a quest to find the world's best yoghurt, reconnecting with a sibling who left the family a decade ago or vowing not to speak for a week.
As Proust put it, “The real act of discovery consists not in finding new lands, but seeing with new eyes.”
Between them, journalists Fein and Barone have written and photographed for more than 100 publications, traveled from Mog Mog to Matmata, coached, made films, given talks, been hired as experts and advisers, blogged, taught math, taught travel writing, taught photography, volunteered in jails, won awards for playwriting, screenwriting and travel journalism, appeared on radio and TV, helmed websites, sold screenplays in Hollywood, lived in Europe, Africa and Mexico.
What The Huffington Post does for politics, YourLifeIsATrip aims to do for the trip of life. Different voices. Different subjects. All related by the common theme–life as a trip. Since its soft-launch early this year, thanks to an assemblage of talented contributors, the site has enjoyed double-digit growth on the new reader and new subscriber fronts and attracted national attention with appearances in WorldHum, The Los Angeles Times, Matador Network, eTurboNews and Tripso, to name a few.
"You never know what you are going to find on YourLifeIsATrip.com," say Barone and Fein. "YourLifeIsATrip is a unique site where writers are encouraged to express what they really think and feel–from tenderness to outrage to exultation to bemusement. We encourage reader feedback, and we've even found new writer voices among the visitors. Like life, we believe that YourLifeIsATrip.com can never be too much fun!"
